The author limits the collaboration between artists and museums to their shared medium—exhibitions—which she examines comparatively. She analyzes the various hierarchically structured collaborative relationships between artists and museum professionals and breaks down different models of collaboration based on differences in the use of positional statements. The focus on contested cultural heritage as a means of reinterpreting the past—one that takes social disagreements into account—serves as a methodological tool for the author, enabling her to sharply highlight institutionalized collaborative relationships. This is followed by case studies of exhibitions held in Slovenia between 1992 and 2020.
