| dc.description | This entry includes the first part of the e-book "Telo med ekstazo in ritualom" (The body between ecstasy and ritual) by author Miša Gams (COBISS.SI-ID 290003459, ISBN 978-961-7283-57-0). The book draws parallels between religious rituals and the pathological compulsion to repeat, aiming to demonstrate a shared mechanism for self-regulating the tension of libidinal balance. The mechanism of obsessive-compulsive neurosis is examined as an example of a pathological disorder; viewed through the lens of the anthropology of everyday life, it is explained as a self-preserving and self-healing process that exacts a lesser toll—in the form of the compulsion to repeat and pathological ecstasy—rather than the greater toll of death. Religious rituals are seen to serve a similar function—discharging sensory arousal through ecstatic experiences—though here they serve to sustain faith in God and establish religion as an institution. Therapeutic aspects are identified in the substitution of artistic ecstasy for pathological ecstasy and in the practice of body-oriented psychotherapy, which strives to restore energetic or emotional balance and to revive the memory of trauma through physical exercises. |
