| dc.description | This entry contains the first part of the e-book "Kako misliti partizansko umetnost" (How to think about partisan art) by Miklavž Komelj published by Založba /*cf in Ljubljana in 2026 (COBISS.SI-ID: 288631043, ISBN: 978-961-257-218-1). The book is not intended as yet another overview of partisan art, but rather explores how art created in the revolutionary context of the Slovenian National Liberation Struggle enables us to reflect on the fundamental relationship between art and politics—and how, ultimately, it can also help us critically reflect on contemporary art practices that define themselves as political. The discussion focuses in particular on the internal tensions and contradictions of partisan art practices, which were already reflected upon during the National Liberation War itself: the problematization of the institution of art, which was conditioned by the emergence of mass anonymous art production linked to the concept of the cultural revolution; the tension between “avant-garde” tendencies and “popularity”; and the reflection on the relationship between “pure” and “political” art, etc. The author focuses primarily on literary art, in which these tensions were most evident, but also takes other fields into account, treating “classical” works (Župančič, Kajuh, etc.) and examples of anonymous production on an equal footing. The book includes extensive notes, which also feature longer excerpts from material previously unknown to the public. The appendix contains the first-ever publication of the minutes from two membership meetings of the Slovenian Art Club in Črnomelj in 1944. |
