The island's inhabitants remain deeply devoted to their spiritual traditions and ancient customs, but Simba has fallen prey to Wilson, an American trader who exports life-sized elephants carved from teak while importing everything he believes will "modernize" the island—and, in doing so, make it his own. Suspenseful, witty, and rich with profound insight, this novel gradually transforms, in true Flisar fashion, into a tragedy. Simba is a powerful warning about human greed and the relentless force with which it drives the world toward destruction.
