As the child of divorced parents, she lives a kind of double life: one week in Vrhnika, the next in Ljubljana. Half her time is spent in a small flat with her mother, who is struggling financially, and the other half with her wealthy but aggressive father. Living between two worlds fills Lara with anxiety, but it is the arrival of a blue envelope that shakes her life so profoundly that she decides to act. Her path then becomes fatefully intertwined with the lives of a group of refugees at the Slovenian–Croatian border. The story unfolds in 2015, a year in which the future of many people – like Lara’s – was dangerously unsettled. Don’t worry, Lara! is a story of confinement, escape and the search for a way forward. It is also a story of youth, hope and new beginnings, told by Lara herself with honesty, sharp insight, humour and great sensitivity.
