 Description

This entry contains the first part of the audiobook "Kleopatra: Novi svet" (Cleopatra: New World) by author Vesna Milek, narrated by Nika Korenjak (COBISS.ID 302081283, ISBN 978-961-298-627-8). While the first part of Cleopatra focuses on the turbulent relationship with Caesar—concluding with his death—the central male figure in the second part of this modern biographical novel is the renowned Roman politician and general Mark Antony, with whom Cleopatra "authored" perhaps one of the greatest love stories of all time. Although the narrative contains no shortage of scenes steeped in passion—at times even bordering on the scandalous—the author’s focus in Cleopatra: New World ultimately lies elsewhere as well: on the profound rift between East and West, a divide that has persisted from the reign of the last Ptolemaic queen to the present day. As established in the first volume, the novel centers primarily on Cleopatra’s inner emotional life; meanwhile, the already hypnotic prose is further enriched by "excursions" into the modern era—passages filled with the author’s lucid insights, whether addressing the sociopolitical landscape of the past or the present.
