This entry contains the first part of the e-book "Boji in preobrazbe neke ženske" (A woman's battles and transformations) by Édouard Louis translated into Slovenian by Iztok Ilc and published by Založba /*cf in Ljubljana in 2026 (COBISS.SI-ID: 288098563, ISBN: 978-961-257-177-1). In this short work, the young but already established writer focuses his narrative on his mother. Through his writing, he attempts to understand who she is and what she went through after her youthful desire for an education was cut short by a premature pregnancy and marriage. It is only through this process — drawn from his memories of his immediate family, marked by deprivation and his father’s alcoholism — that the realization begins to surface: despite her difficult experiences, his mother never gave up hope for a better life. With courage and determination, after twenty years of humiliation, she breaks the cycle of patriarchy and alcoholism. In this new chapter of her life, she transforms into a completely different woman. Along with her metamorphosis, the relationship between her and her son also changes; his upbringing was made even more difficult not only by social deprivation but also by his same-sex orientation.
