dc.description This entry includes the first part of the e-book "Slej ko prej za vselej" (Sooner or later for good) by author Bojan Sedmak (COBISS.SI-ID 288267523, ISBN 978-961-7283-77-8). It is fortunate that even the most devoted worshiper of the written word sometimes has to eat his own words. Thus, despite his admission that he is increasingly drawn to writing poetry and less to keeping a diary, we are presented with a new book of diary entries by Bojan Sedmak, covering the period from 2009 to 2013. Its title, "Slej ko prej za vselej" (Sooner or Later, Forever), suggests that it forms a sort of trilogy with his previous diary-cum-commentary books, "Zdaj za prej pozneje" and "Potem za zdaj". Despite the decade-long gap, this remains a fresh and relevant read—unaffected by the inevitable passage of time—and it would be a shame to miss out on it. Naturally, this diary format is infused with poetry—an element that, among many others, defines the author: a multifaceted cultural figure, poet, singer-songwriter, professor, and writer; a lover of music, film, theater, books, and travel; and, not least, a lover convinced that love itself can largely shield us from all manner of evil. It is only natural that the cream of all these experiences has found its way into this diary-like kaleidoscope of a life lived to the fullest. Social issues are not overlooked either—including the famous Maribor protests—even though Sedmak, a lucid critic of the oversaturation caused by media-constructed reality, deliberately eschews a regular chronicle of social events, reasoning that there are already enough other "opinion-stirrers" out there. In this respect, too, this "anarchistic lover of coincidences"—rather than... ...someone who sought career connections, a vitalist who never felt the need to defeat anyone in sports just to feel good about himself—a unique individual. Naturally, his diary is equally unique, light-years removed from dry, factual recollections. In its pages, the author firmly establishes himself as a broad-minded, witty, playful, and aphoristically gifted figure—a passionate, perceptive observer and thinker who is honest with both himself and others. His perspective extends far beyond the local horizon, yet he by no means denies his native city on the Drava—and its people and events—the attention they deserve. To paraphrase him: "Now I know"—whether with a period or an exclamation mark—"it is a good thing that, through this book, he has summoned all these people and things back." — Darka Zvonar Predan
