| dc.description | This entry contains the first part of the audiobook "Dorotejine solze" (Dorothy's tears) by author Ivan Sivec (COBISS.SI-ID 287375107, ISBN 978-961-7143-69-0). Slovenian author Ivan Sivec presents the life story of the Poor Clares of Mekinje Monastery near Kamnik, with particular emphasis on its most renowned, benevolent and enlightened abbess, Doroteja Sidonija Gallenberg (1664–1728). In literature, monastic life and activities have been largely overlooked in past decades, despite the fact that monasteries were centuries-old spiritual centres, educational institutions, and successful economic and cultural hubs. The novel portrays the remarkable stories of wealthy noblewomen, revealing both their spiritual strengths and shortcomings. Particularly chilling are the stories of a Protestant apostate, a medieval-style divorce, a love kept secret, a gold mine, a herbal miracle, and the mysteries of St. Primus. The novel also draws particular attention to the polymath Janez Vajkard Valvasor and the father of the Slovenian written word, Primož Trubar. The entire narrative is an ode to Mekinje Monastery and the nearby town of Kamnik, an earthly paradise beneath the Kamnik Alps. |
