| dc.description | This entry contains the first part of the audiobook "Slediti neizgovorjenemu" (Following the unspoken) by authors Milan Šelj and Jaka Strajnar (COBISS ID: 287132163, ISBN: 978-961-7267-12-9). Far too much poetry by poets and poets remains hidden in a dead, stripped-down, closed-off language, simply so that they do not have to attack, defend themselves, love, hate, condemn, belong, be bad, be good, be alive. Milan’s poetic world is at times more prosaic and event-driven, at others more poetic and lyrical, as though these shifts alternated between times for action and times for introspection. Yet overarching his entire body of work is a fundamental, noble Enlightenment commitment: writing about freedom. The central message of this collection is expressed in a line from the seventh poem: “Where I come from, I could never look out. In this country where I am, I cannot look in.” Perhaps these “spaces of homelessness, carved into walls” represent Milan’s position as a foreigner, a migrant. For despite fleeting moments of fragile peace, homosexuality is and remains a scandal of civilization. To follow the unspoken? Milan Šelj has done so. |
