Much has been written about Ivan Tavčar, one of Slovenia’s finest and most popular writers among readers. Yet Slovenian literature had not, until now, had a biographical novel portraying him in all his greatness as well as his flaws. Contemporary writer Ivan Sivec has taken on this challenging task. In "The Gentleman of Visoko", No. 5 in the Slovenian Castle Story series, he presents Tavčar’s entire life and work in an engaging and accessible way, from his birth to his death—or rather, to the tragic end of his family line. In his foreword, journalist and philosopher Miha Naglič writes, among other things, about how two Ivans met and recognized something in each other: two men who were remarkably alike, both of whom devoted—and continue to devote—themselves wholeheartedly to their readers.
