Alenka Čurin Janžekovič was a retired teacher and principal, wholeheartedly devoted to this noble profession. Dance, piano, singing, and harmless mischief infused with humor enriched her life in such a way that, through her story, she can teach us how to truly LIVE. But just as every fairy tale has its darker side, so did Alenka’s life — from birth she lived with Morquio syndrome, also known as mucopolysaccharidosis IV, a condition affecting the joints. Due to the lack of one of the enzymes needed for sugar metabolism, cartilage and bones in this disease literally deteriorate. There is no cure. She was not afraid of death. What she feared, like many others, was pain, prolonged existence confined to a hospital bed, dependence on the help of others…
