Many believe that the writer Ivan Sivec is one of the rare masters of short stories, or novellas. That this is indeed true is also confirmed by the readership of such books. Readers are presented with the fifth collection of Sivec’s novellas, titled Blooming Slovenia, with the subtitle Seven Paths to Heaven. In fact, the latter expression is mainly ironic, and the stories could just as well be subtitled Seven Paths to Hell. Over the past thirty years, Slovenia has made significant progress, but in many respects it has also “blossomed” in a negative sense.
